Atif Taher

Atif Taher is the General Counsel at Injazat

In his role at Injazat, Atif advises on all strategic matters from a legal, contractual, and compliance perspective and leads the Legal team across Injazat’s various businesses and platforms. Atif is also responsible for the corporate governance program and serves as Company Secretary.

An experienced technology lawyer and solicitor qualified in England and Wales, Atif obtained his law degree from Cambridge University, after which he entered private legal practice with Eversheds Sutherland LLP, a global top-tier law firm. Atif spent over a decade practicing as a technology lawyer with Eversheds Sutherland both in England and Abu Dhabi, and in his final year in private practice he was independently rated by clients as a Star Lawyer in the Acritas Research Study.

Whilst Atif’s role at Injazat is focused on transforming an established technology business and sizable legal function, Atif’s previous in-house roles were primarily at start-ups which required Atif to create new native legal functions. Both types of role have required an entrepreneurial spirit to successfully deliver our stakeholders’ visions.

Atif was previously Legal Counsel at Cognit, a Mubadala-IBM joint venture specializing in Artificial Intelligence and with exclusive rights to the ‘Watson’ products and services in the Middle East. At Cognit, Atif led contractual negotiations for the delivery of AI solutions to clients leveraging both internal capabilities and Cognit’s ecosystem.

Atif also acts as Legal Counsel at Malaffi, a Public-Private Partnership with the Department of Health Abu Dhabi for the creation of a Health Information Exchange (HIE). At Malaffi, Atif was responsible for shaping the regulatory framework for the establishment of a unified medical record system, and for negotiating key agreements for data access and sharing with the healthcare industry and key technology partners. The Malaffi platform was the first HIE in the Middle East and the fastest to be stood up anywhere in the world.

Atif has a keen interest in all matters relating to technology and has lectured on legal careers and legal drafting to prospective lawyers in both the UK and Abu Dhabi. Atif is an intermediate Arabic speaker.
